The work of Julie Daňhelová carries a distinctive signature. Her black-and-white drawings are set in custom-made frames, often adorned with original carvings. They introduce a world of seemingly unassuming yet enigmatic figures.

The scenes flow between historical document and fantastical imagination and alternate between human architecture and organic landscapes –moving between order and freedom, while exploring the link between material and spiritual worlds. Displayed at exhibitions, the meticulous works on paper are complemented by the artist’s in-situ installations of objects, which evoke alchemical experiments or rituals.
The drawings fascinate with their perfection. Although their technical finesse seems to require prior preparation, their precision and consistency stem from intense focus – a meditative state of mind, engendering mysterious environments full of detail and encrypted meaning. Sources of inspiration often originate from the memory of a place, the history of human activities and crafts, as well as the resilient power of nature—both physical and metaphysical.

Julie Daňhelová graduated from the Printmaking Studio II led by Vladimír Kokolia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and undertook part of her studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. The Belgian city, the Ore Mountains in Bohemia, and other places the artist experiences leave their imprint on her work in the form of stories, attributes, and materials.
