Hynek Alt is an artist who works with the medium of photography, which he analyzes post-conceptually, exploring its possibilities and limits. He develops his themes in spatial installations connected with photography itself as well as with video and object art.

Alt thematizes the reproducibility and manipulability of the medium, and he is also inclined to emphasize the physical nature of photography, which we tend to perceive as merely an immaterial image. This results in the creation of specific spatial photographic objects. Through his works, Alt deconstructs the automatism of our life in the world today and brings to light hidden networks and infrastructures, whether it is those running beneath the surface of the city or even those that exist only in our heads. Inanimate entities often find themselves in an active role in the web of relationships between themselves and humans. Alt is, among other things, an established teacher at art schools in Prague. For many years he was in an artistic duo with Aleksandra Vajd, with whom he led the photography studio at the Academy of Art, Architecture & Design in Prague from 2008 to 2016. Since 2017 he has been the head of the photography studio at the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, his own alma mater.
